The Data, Measurement, and Analytics Playlist

Data is key to unlocking the future of L&D.

It’s the fuel that helps drive organizations to success. Data guides strategies for growth and positive results.

Measuring and analyzing data help us make better decisions, solve problems, improve processes, accelerate performance, and achieve goals. Data tells the story of our success…and our failures. It offers us the intelligence to keep moving forward, or to stop, reassess, and continue on.

And most importantly, data aligns us with the business AND our learners. It’s how we measure performance and display results.

Join the Training, Learning, and Development Community this October as we discuss Data, Measurement, and Analytics. This topic is what is guiding the future of L&D, and this series is a perfect introduction to why and what you need to know … NOW.

Learning You Can Count On with Sam Rogers

Data, Measurement, and Analytics aren’t new, but they are gaining a lot more importance in our learning industry these days. There’s a reason for that, and you don’t have to be a “numbers person” to get in on this opportunity. Come up to speed fast with Sam Rogers as he describes some common methodologies for getting at the things that count, how to count them, and how to help others up the management chain know that they can count on you.

Peace, Love & Data Interoperability: Using xAPI to Drive Analytics with Megan Torrance

As adoption of xAPI takes hold, it allows for more robust and interesting tracking of the learning process. As actual performance and results data are integrated with learning metrics, we will have the data we need to tailor the learning process to individual needs at the same time that we can draw more useful conclusions about the learning as a whole across a wider population.

This leaves instructional designers with a set of critical questions: How does this impact my work? What tools do I need? What data should I track? What infrastructure does my organization need to be able to take advantage of this?

How does this session address the problem?

After an introduction to xAPI and how it’s different from the SCORM-based LMS environment we’re familiar with, we’ll discuss three key areas that impact instructional designers and their teams:

  • Identifying learning data needs, data sources and meaningful visualizations that answer organizational and L&D questions
  • Determining what data to send, where it exists, and how to organize it
  • Making choices about infrastructure: how and when to work with your LMS, your LRS or both

Moving to the Head of the Table:  Learning Analytics, Assessments, and Impact with A.D. Detrick

A.D. Detrick regularly tells his clients that the application of learning analytics has the power to move L&D from “fighting for a seat at the table” to the head of that table. Making that move requires an understanding of how learning affects behavior (instead of being entirely responsible for it), and how to effectively and realistically assess learning comprehension. Join A.D. for this session where he discusses the importance of proper learning assessments, and how they can lead to performance consulting that drives positive change in an organization.
